Lindsay Lohan swam in a Los Angeles pool in unchanged water just a week after someone died there.

 

The "Mean Girls" actress and her girlfriend Samantha Ronson were partying at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel when they cavorted in the pool last weekend, but were not made aware of the death which had occurred a week earlier.

On October 13, staff found 30-year-old Jordan Nagler dead at the bottom of the Tropicana Bar pool.

Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the Los Angeles County coroner's office, said: "He was found at the bottom of the pool wearing swimming trunks. The staff at the hotel found him, but we don't know who actually removed him from the pool."

However, staff reportedly decided there was no need to drain the pool following the incident.

A source at the hotel told the New York Post newspaper: "Management had a meeting, where they told staffers the pool didn't need to be drained because there was enough chlorine in it to kill the bacteria."

"Following the tragedy, the hotel held a meeting with employees of the Roosevelt, Teddy's, the club inside the hotel, and Tropicana Bar. Staffers were instructed not to say anything to anyone."

Stephen Brandman, chief operating officer of Thompson Hotels, which owns the Roosevelt, denied the reports, adding: "Somebody did die, but we don't think anything awkward or bizarre occurred. He had a heart attack."

JOLIE TO HELP IMMIGRANT CHILDREN

Angelina Jolie has joined an organization to help immigrant children in the US.

 

The actress – who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt – is teaming up with the Microsoft Corporation to support Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), which aims to "provide legal representation for 100 per cent of unaccompanied children." The scheme hopes to help children, of which there are approximately 2,100 a year in need of assistance, "in those areas of the country where the need is greatest" by 2010.The organization will first assist young people in Los Angeles, Seattle and Houston but hope to eventually expand throughout the country. America is one of the only Western nations that does not provide counsel for unaccompanied children in immigrant court, many of who arrive in the US unable to speak English because they are victims of trafficking, looking for family, or hoping to flee persecution or torture from their home nation. Many cases are turned down because the child does not have a lawyer, but KIND aim to secure legal representation for them. Angelina also works as a United Nations (UN) goodwill ambassador and has visited refugee camps around the world, receiving many awards for her humanitarian work, including the Citizen of the World Award from the UN and the Freedom Award, which was given by the International Rescue Committee.

HAYDEN PANETTIERE'S PARENT PROTECTION

Hayden Panettiere's father has been issued with a protection order instructing him not to ''harass or strike'' his wife.

Alan Panettiere received the order yesterday (Oct 14, 2008) when he appeared in court over misdemeanor battery charges relating to his alleged fight with his wife Lesley in August.

The protection order - which will be in place until Alan's arraignment on December 11 - says Alan must not "harass, strike, threaten, assault (sexually or otherwise), follow, stalk [or] molest" Lesley.

Alan faces one year in jail if he is convicted of the charges.

Hayden's dad was arrested after he allegedly "struck his wife Lesley Vogel one or two times on the cheek causing bruising with a closed fist," according to a police spokesperson at the time.

After he was released on bail, Alan said: "It was all a misunderstanding, nothing actually happened."

Following the incident, "Heroes" star Hayden, 19, insisted it had been "blown way out of proportion by a sheriff who wanted his 15 minutes of fame."

Lesley and Alan have also released a statement saying they "love each other very much."

JANET SUFFERING FROM VERTIGO & MIGRAINE

Janet Jackson is suffering from vertigo and a ''rare form of migraine.''

The singer has been forced to cancel several dates on her "Rock Witchu" tour after falling ill while rehearsing for her show on September 29, but is now receiving treatment for the previously undisclosed illness.

A statement released by Janet's management said: "After a thorough medical evaluation, it has been confirmed that Janet's symptoms are being caused by a rare form of migraine called vestibular migraine or migraine-associated vertigo for which she is currently receiving treatment."

Janet has apologized to fans for canceling nine shows over recent weeks, and has confirmed she is now well enough to perform.

Her manager Kenneth Crear said: "Janet wanted very much to resume her tour so as not to disappoint her fans, but she continued to suffer from vertigo and could not perform."

"She's a world-class entertainer and needs to be at the top of her game to give her fans the show they expect. She's feeling much better and is ready to hit the road again to finish the tour."

ALICIA KEYS LEADS AMA NOMINATIONS

Alicia Keys has been nominated for five accolades at the American Music Awards.

The "No One" singer will battle Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and the Eagles for the prestigious Artist of the Year award at the ceremony to be held in Los Angeles on November 23.

Alicia has also been nominated in the Female Artist and Album categories in the Pop/Rock section and Female Artist and Album in the Soul/Rhythm and Blues section.

As well as competing against Alicia in the Artist of the Year category and the Pop/Rock Album section, British band Coldplay – who received worldwide acclaim for their latest LP "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" - will battle the Foo Fighters and Linkin Park for Alternative Rock Artist and the Eagles and Daughtry in the Pop/Rock Band, duo or group category.

The American Music Awards will be broadcast live on US TV, and will feature performances from the Jonas Brothers – who are nominated for the Breakthrough Artist award - Pink and New Kids On The Block.

PINK WANTS UNCONVENTIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The 29-year-old singer – who split from husband Carey Hart earlier this year – has had enough of commitment, and is determined to enjoy herself.

She said: "I want the out-of-control, unconventional, passionate, fun stuff now. But saying that, I've had two six-year relationships so I can't pretend I'm not the long-term type. Right now, I'm just enjoying being me."

Pink also revealed she would never change herself to please a potential partner.

She added to Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine: "I once dated a man who said he wanted me to be more ladylike. I told him where to stick it!"

"Independence is what makes you special. A lot of people change in relationships. It's as though they mold into the other person's ideal."

"But you lose a big part of yourself and part of the person he fell in love with in the first place. No woman should change to suit a man."

BRITNEY'S TELL ALL INTERVIEW

The 90-minute film, tentatively titled "For the Record," sees the 26-year-old star discuss her public meltdown ahead of the release of her new album "Circus."

Britney said: "So much has gone on over the last couple of years and there's a lot that people don't know about me that I want them to know."

"I wanted to make this film because I started to feel like I wasn't being seen in the light that I wanted to be seen in."

"This is an opportunity to set the record straight and talk about what I've been through and where I'm headed."

In a clip from the documentary, set to air on MTV in America at 10pm on November 30 - two days before the release of "Circus" - Britney is seen pondering her past.

She says: "I sit there and I'll look back and I'm like, 'I'm a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?' I've been through a lot in the past two or three years, and there's a lot that people don't know."

"Sometimes I think I get kind of lonely because you don't open the gate up that much, you know I mean? You're guarded."

"You have to be that way, so I'm kind of stuck in this place and it's like, 'How do you deal?' And you just cope, and that's what I do. I just cope with it, every day."

This is not the first time Britney has appeared in a documentary.

She also starred in "Britney and Kevin: Chaotic" alongside ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2005.

JOLIE NEVER WANTED TO CONCEIVE NATURALLY UNTIL SHE MET PITT

The 33-year-old actress - who has three adopted children Maddox, Pax and Zahara, two-year-old daughter Shiloh and two-month-old twins Vivienne and Knox with Brad - had not considered getting pregnant until she fell in love with 44-year-old Brad.

She said: "I think one of the life changing things that Brad did for me, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant."

"I never felt that it was the right thing to do."

"I suppose I just looked at him and loved him and just felt open to getting pregnant."

"I suddenly wanted to. It's one of those things you can't explain."

"I wouldn't trade that experience for the world. It taught me a lot about life, just the process of it, and now we have three other beautiful children that wouldn't otherwise be here."

Angelina's interview accompanies a series of intimate shots of the actress taken by Brad.

In one of the black and white pictures, which features on the front of W magazine, Angelina is seen breastfeeding one of the twins.

Angelina revealed she was comfortable showing off her post-pregnancy body in the shots, because Brad made her feel "sexy."

She added: "I'm with a man who's evolved enough to look at my body and see it as more beautiful, because of the journey it has taken and what it has created."

"He genuinely sees it that way. So I genuinely feel even sexier."

PARIS ANNOYS FERRY WITH DJING SKILLS

Paris, who took to the decks at London's new Jalouse club after model Daisy Lowe pulled out of her scheduled set, irritated the Roxy Music front man with her mix of hardcore techno tracks.

Bryan, 63, became so angry with her record choices, he and his two sons Tara and Merlin moved as far away from the DJ booth as possible.

An onlooker said: "Bryan looked very suave. He was wearing a smart suit, Oxford blue shirt and a pullover."

"He arrived with Tara and Merlin after 11pm and they all went off to mingle."

"But then Paris got up on the decks and started playing really hardcore techno music."

"You could see the look of displeasure on Bryan's face and he quickly moved away from the DJ booth."

"He found his sons, took them to the other side of the club and they all seemed to have a really in-depth talk, probably trying to drown out Paris."

Earlier this week, "Slave to Love" singer Bryan was honored for his songwriting skills at the BMI awards in London where he picked up the BMI Icon accolade.

At the presentation of the award, BMI president Del Bryant called Bryan: "The epitome of Britishness and the ultimate combination of rock god and matinee idol."

TISDALE'S EFRON SURPRISE

The 23-year-old actress - who stars alongside Zac in the "High School Musical" film franchise - insists the pair have always been just good friends.

She said: "I've never been attracted to Zac, and he's never been attracted to me - which is even more amazing!"

"He always says I look hot, and I'm like, 'Aw, thanks Zac.'"

"But really, it's more like siblings than a flirty relationship - he's seriously like my brother."

While Ashley does not see Zac as a potential boyfriend, she has found some uses for him.

She said: "It's cool to have someone who's completely honest with you, who can give you a guy's opinion."

"And if I have a problem, I know I can call him whenever."

The actress also admitted she would never consider dating a jealous man because she had to work with so many good looking boys on the "High School Musical" films.

She added to Seventeen magazine: "I'm always surrounded by good-looking guys, like Zac Efron, so I have to be with someone who's not going to get jealous about any of that, or when I'm kissing somebody in a scene."

MADONNA'S SILENT SUPPORT

The "4 Minutes" singer - who is currently on her "Sticky and Sweet" world tour - is said to be refusing to socialize with artists who open her show.

"Every Heartbeat" singer Robyn, who performed before Madonna on the tour's European leg, revealed she and the show's crew were under strict orders not to approach the pop icon, speak to her or ask for autographs and pictures.

Robyn is quoted as saying: "I hadn't expected any glamor, but it's strange that they assume that the first thing you're going to do is run after Madonna and ask for an autograph."

Robyn also revealed that despite sharing a stage with Madonna she hasn't even met the 50-year-old superstar, and can't imagine following in her footsteps.

She added to a Swedish newspaper: "My worst nightmare would be to turn into a Madonna because of her constant chasing of the latest trends."

"As an artist I do not want to be someone who does not feel safe in the creative process."

LEWIS TURNS DOWN $1.7M HARRODS SALE OFFER

The "Bleeding Love" singer was reportedly asked by the prestigious London store's owner Mohammed al Fayed to open the January sale but refused because they sell fur products.

The 23-year-old star - who was recently voted the World's Sexiest Vegetarian by animal activist group PETA - said: “I'm totally against animal cruelty."

"I don't have clothes, shoes or bags made from any animal products."

Previous stars who have opened the world-famous sale include former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham, "Sex and the City" actress Kim Cattrall, "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria, and singers Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera.

Leona is currently in talks to create an ethical range of non-leather bags, shoes and accessories for British high street store Topshop.

RUMER WILLIS WAS A BIG DORK

The 20-year-old actress – who is the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis – admits her role as a geeky student in new film "The House Bunny" was easy to play as she had plenty of personal experience to draw on.

She said: "I was a big dork. When I was growing up I had braces and glasses, and I had this big curly Afro. I definitely understand not entirely fitting in."

"I think everyone has their own version of feeling out of place and I think one of the great things we have the ability to do is to know it's all right. It's OK to have that awkward phase."

Rumer also revealed she didn't always want to be an actress – she once considered training to be a doctor because she was interested in learning about psychology.

Although she eventually decided to follow her parents into the acting industry, they were adamant she had to complete her education before beginning a Hollywood career.

She added to the Ticket supplement: "For a while I thought about studying medicine at school because I've always been interested in how people's minds work. But I'm able to explore some of that as an actor and ultimately I think it seems more interesting."

"My parents always knew I wanted to act, so it didn't really come as a big surprise. The only thing they told me was that I had to wait until I was 18 so I could get my education first."
